Fishing Success with Plastic Worms
Aug 10th, 2008 | Category: Bass Fishing, Fishing Stories, Fishing Tips & TechniquesA lot of beginner fishermen, as well as the more experienced fishermen, bring up the question of plastic worms. In my most recent experience and the knowledge I have acquired over the past few years, plastic worms are my most successful lure.
I now use Ultra-Lite tackle for greater sensitivity to feel the light taps and tugs on the line. You will never catch me out on the water without my Mitchell Classic 300 Series Im6 New Generation Graphite 6’ Medium Action Rod. This baby has a Simano Graphite construction open face reel and reads spool R1 on the side, compatible with the ultra-lite rod. I bought this rod & reel at the Bass Pro Shops in Springfield, Massachusetts years ago and, not surprisingly, it has held up very well.
With this reel, I also use 10 lb FireLine with a Palomar knot only recommended by my fisherman buddy & neighbor. Eagle Claw razor sharp hooks contribute to my success along with Wal-Mart’s Renegade 4” plastic worms. I have my best luck with the dark purple Teq Sunrise worms. The hook size is a #2 bait holder with the barbs on the hook shank and a 3/16 ounce bullet weight.
You wouldn’t believe the amounts of large & small bass I have caught with this combination. Hopefully sharing some of this information will help many beginning and hopefully a few advanced fishermen. These fishing tips and techniques could especially help your fishing success on windy days.
Good luck fishing. Feel free to comment or ask questions below.
